Dean & Britta's 13 Most Beautiful Songs for Andy Warhol's Screen
. Originally commissioned by the Andy Warhol Museum and Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, the project began as a live multimedia show featuring Dean & Britta performing original material in front of 13 shorts selected from Andy Warhol's Screen Tests collection. In support of the project, Dean & Britta will continue touring throughout 2010. In addition, Dean Wareham will perform a series of shows this fall, playing a set of Galaxie 500 songs, backed by the Dean & Britta band (Britta on bass, Anthony LaMarca on drums and Matt Sumrow on guitar). Produced by Dean & Britta at Trout Recording in Brooklyn, the 13-track album features material from the live showeight songs and five instrumentals written by the pair as well a handful of covers including renditions of Bob Dylan's "I'll Keep It with Mine" and the Velvet Underground's "Not a Young Man Anymore." Also included is a second disc of remixes and alternate mixes by Scott Hardkiss, Sonic Boom (MGMT, Spacemen 3) and My Robot Friend. Additionally, the package features a 12-page booklet containing an essay by Dean Wareham on scoring the screen tests as well as still photographs from Warhol's films. The screen tests are short, silent portrait films made by Andy Warhol at the Factory between 1964 and 1966. Each film is 4:15 in length and focuses on a unique subject. The duo personally selected 13 subjects (including Dennis Hopper, Nico, Lou Reed), which became the inspiration for the project. Of selecting the shorts, Wareham notes, "I visited the museum in Pittsburgh and looked at about 150 of the screen tests, without quite knowing what I was looking for. Warhol had shot more than 470 of these films. Some were so immediately stunningJane Holzer brushing her teeth, Ann Buchanan crying a tearthat I knew I had to include them."
