Bono Talks Spider-Man Difficulties

(Gibson) With the new Spider-Man musical set to begin previews this weekend on Broadway, Bono is speaking out about the difficult process it took to stage the production. Bringing Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, which cost $60 million, to the stage has been "harder that we ever thought," he told The Associated Press. "What we didn't realize was how difficult it is to stage this stuff both technically and financially."

Bono wrote the songs for the musical with his U2 bandmate The Edge. Julie Taymor (Across the Universe) co-wrote and directed the production, seeing the process through for more than eight years of development. There have been multiple delays involving casting issues, the death of a producer and safety concerns regarding the show's stunts.

"It's technically very difficult," Bono added. "It has never been achieved before the kind of scale of what we're looking for. There may be very good reasons. We're going to find out. The expense of it? A lot of it was the delays." -
