Hound Dog, Stand By Me Songwriter Jerry Leiber Dead At 78
. Leiber and his partner Mike Stoller have their fingerprints on some of the most famous songs in pop and rock and roll history. Among the hits they penned: "Hound Dog," "Stand By Me," "Jailhouse Rock," "Yakety-Yak," "On Broadway," "Searchin'," "Love Potion No. 9" and "Kansas City." The two songwriters met in 1950, when they were seniors in high school. They bonded over a shared love of pop, R&B and the blues. Leiber and Stoller began writing together, with Jerry handling the lyrics and Mike working on the melodies.
