Flaming Lips Cellular
. Now comes news that the veteran alternative band will soon release a cell-phone-based version of Zaireeka, their pioneering interactive 1997 work. In an interview with Spin, Coyne said the phone version will be available in the next 10 days. An ambitious conceptual effort, Zaireeka consisted, in its original form, of four separate discs designed to be played either separately or simultaneously in groups of two, three or four utilizing multiple stereo systems. For the reissue, the album is designed to be played in a similar fashion on four different cell phones. Coyne and bandmate Steven Drozd recently demonstrated how to cue up the album on mobile phones.
