Headstock Festival was set up in 2010 by Newstead Enterprise. Headstock is part of a bigger endeavour to create a sustainable future for the village, which suffered severe deprivation after the coal mine closed in 1987. Newstead's plight was recognised by the BBC and the Big Lottery Fund, who joined forces on the Village SOS project in a bid to start a rural regeneration. The BBC is filming the journey of the villages, including the regeneration of Newstead, for a primetime
Last year's Headstock was runner up for Best New Festival at the UK Festival Awards and received rave reviews from media and festival attendees. This year's Headstock grows from a one-day event to two days and three nights.
