Original Beatle Gets His Own Streets

(Gibson) Original Beatles drummer Pete Best will finally have not one, but two Liverpool streets named after him. According to the Liverpool Echo , Best, who was fired by The Beatles in 1961 to be replaced by Ringo Starr, is now honored with Pete Best Drive.

His mother, Mona, is also honored with Casbah Close, named after the Casbah café she ran (a key music venue for young bands in Liverpool) in the early '60s. The campaign to honor Pete Best with a road has been going for 36 years, after Gene Grimes of the Beatles Appreciation Society first wrote to the Liverpool council.

Best said: "Gene has always been a very good friend and supporter and he said he wanted to get a street named after me. I said thanks but didn't give it any more thought. more on this story
