Snoop Dogg Involved in West Coast Block Starz II
. Block Starz Music first connected with Snoop Dogg's newly-formed label after Dogg Town's CEO and head of A&R, Shatto Brown, signed Lebanese-American vocal artist Lynda Sayyah, who is also featured on the "She Got Next 2011" EP available from Block Starz Music on June 21. "We were talking to Shatto about [Dogg Town artist] Poppa Heat, when the idea came up to collaborate on a 'West Coast Block Starz II'," says Block Starz Music Co-Founder and President Bayer Mack. "Everything we d o at Block Starz Music is designed to raise awareness about exciting new independent artists and music. Snoop Dogg is a West Coast icon with global recognition. It sounded like a match made in Hollywood." Mixed by world-renown DJ Clinton Sparks and released in late 2008, "West Coast Block Starz", which is now available for free download to all @BlockStarz Twitter followers, was Block Starz Music's debut compilation and gave various featured "New West" artists like Fashawn, J. Doe, Roscoe Umali, JAG (who later signed to NBA star Carmello Anthony's Larsiny Family), and Mykestro, national exposure. "With 'West Coast Block Starz', we wanted to vividly illustrate the burgeoning 'New West' movement and its diverse selection of exciting new music talent not yet on the national radar," says Block Starz Music Co-Founder and CEO Kai Denninger of the project's debut. "With this Dogg Town Music collaboration on 'West Coast Block Starz II', we wan t to introduce listeners to the area's next crop of hot artists."
