Abba Open The Vaults for New Deluxe Edition

Yesterday, Universal released the Deluxe Edition of ABBA's seventh studio album, Super Trouper.

Originally released in 1980, Super Trouper features classic hits such as the title track, "The Winner Takes It All" and "Lay All Your Love On Me," along with the original version of one of the more poignant songs in the musical Mamma Mia!, "Our Last Summer."

Super Trouper Deluxe Edition is a 2-disc release, featuring a CD of the original album and bonus tracks specifically remastered for this release, plus a DVD of rare television performances and interviews from the archives, showing rare and previously unseen footage.

Bonus materials included are a full-length version of "On And On And On," previously available only in mono; while the DVD contains a number of television performances of songs from the Super Trouper album, none of which has been released on DVD before. Words And Music, a vintage documentary produced by Polar Music International, features the group talking specifically about the Super Trouper album immediately after its completion.

Also provided is the segment Somewhere In The Crowd There's You On Location With ABBA. This featurette is a new production, compiling footage that was shot on the night when ABBA and their album designer, Rune Soderqvist, assembled a crowd of friends and circus performers to create the spectacular photograph featured on the Super Trouper album sleeve. The original promo clips for "Super Trouper" and "Happy New Year" showcase footage shot on the "album sleeve night." The sequences included in the promo clips, shot by esteemed director Lasse Hallstrom, are completely different than the footage in the featurette filmed by a separate film crew. The promo clips are the newly restored and remastered versions, of which only "Super Trouper" has been released before (on 2010's ABBA Gold CD/DVD Special Edition); the restored "Happy New Year" is available and seen here for the first time.
