Experience Hendrix Tour Adds Dates and Taj Mahal and The Doors Krieger

01/12/2012
.
The Experience Hendrix Tour has been expanded not only with new dates but with some extra star power from Taj Mahal, Doors guitarist Robby Krieger and Eric Gales.

Here is the official word with more details: These unique concerts bring together an all-star line-up of musical greats playing homage to the music and legacy of Jimi Hendrix.

In addition to the performances initially announced concerts will now take place in Denver, Wichita, Tulsa, Colorado City, Springfield, MO, and Orlando, Florida. Demand for tickets has now created unprecedented second show on March 25 in Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater.

The tour plays twenty-one shows over the course of three weeks with performance dates in Nashville, Atlanta, Houston, Denver, four dates in Florida and others.

The musical lineup for the tour has now expanded to include blues great Taj Mahal, legendary Doors guitarist Robby Krieger and left handed guitarist extraordinaire Eric Gales will be joining the Experience Hendrix tour for the final six dates while the participation of such phenomenal artists as Buddy Guy, Dweezil Zappa, Billy Cox, Robert Randolph, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, David Hidalgo & Cesar Rosas [Los Lobos], Keb' Mo, Eric Johnson, Brad Whitford [Aerosmith], Chris Layton [Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble] and The Slide Brothers having been announced earlier.

In terms of format, the tour offers multiple opportunities for performers and audiences to witness unique collaborations among the participating artists such as Dweezil Zappa with Billy Cox, Robby Krieger with Los Lobos, Buddy Guy with Robert Randolph, Jonny Lang with Brad Whitford. The artists perform their favorite Hendrix signature songs including "Little Wing," "Fire," "Purple Haze," and "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)". As has been the case with previous Experience Hendrix outings, special guests are expected to sit in at many of the dates, making the concerts all that much more memorable for both new and veteran Hendrix fans. Past special guests have included Paul Rodgers, Joe Satriani, Hubert Sumlin, Steve Vai, Carlos Santana and others. The tour's presence has been made known on national TV with Robert Randolph & the Slide Brothers performing "Purple Haze" on Late Night With Conan O'Brien, Jonny Lang on Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Tonight Show as well as Kenny Wayne Shepherd playing Jimi Hendrix's actual Woodstock guitar on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Shepherd, a veteran of several Experience Hendrix tours remarked, "Jimi Hendrix's music has really inspired me to push the limits of my own music. He didn't observe any boundaries musically. He was an amazing player and a tremendous showman so I incorporated some of his showmanship in what I do." As far as having been part of the Experience Hendrix touring phenomenon, Shepherd noted, "It touches you on the inside and gets you fired up."

Dweezil Zappa, whose new album Live -In The Moment has just been released, is making his Experience Hendrix tour debut on this run of dates. He commented "I've always been a great admirer of Jimi Hendrix. My dad told me some great stories about playing with him. Jimi's ability to express himself so completely with an electric guitar is very inspiring to me. I'm honored to be invited to participate in this tour and I'm really looking forward to playing with everyone!" Zappa's Dweezilla Music Boot Camp is now accepting students for its upcoming 4th of July session. The guitar style of Jimi Hendrix has been highlighted in previous Dweezilla conclaves and is expected to be a hot topic in the curriculum in 2012

Anchoring the tour is Billy Cox, the legendary bassist whose relationship with Jimi Hendrix and his music dates back to the early 1960s when the two met while serving in the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division. The two bonded over their love of music and would later work together backing R&B acts on the "chitlin' circuit." They reunited when Cox was recruited to be part of the Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsys as well as the ultimate iteration of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, performing at such landmark festivals as Woodstock and the Isle of Wight. Cox, who has been part of all previous Experience Hendrix tours, notes, "It's always a great thrill and honor for me to play Jimi's music for audiences now just as it was in the 1960s. Each of the Experience Hendrix tours has shown how timeless this music really is and is just wonderful that we've continued to get an infusion of new, very enthusiastic artists to participate and are able to offer the most wide-ranging Jimi Hendrix-related repertoire possible."
