The frontman didn't believe it had any place in the thrash giants' catalogue – but since its release it's become a firm fan favourite. And guitarist Kirk Hammett admits there's some truth behind the long-running joke about his struggles to learn the song.
"It's absolutely crazy. That was the song I thought was least Metallica, least likely to ever be played by us – the last song anyone would really want to hear.," Hetfield tells the Village Voice. "It was a song for myself in my room on tour when I was bumming out about being away from home.
