The Flaming Lips Eye World Record

05/24/2012
.
(Gibson) The Flaming Lips have announced they will attempt to set a new world record for the most live concerts in multiple cities in a 24-hour period.

The official Guinness Book world record, currently held by Jay-Z, stands at seven. Jay-Z accomplished the feat by jetting around the country, but frontman Wayne Coyne says the Flaming Lips will break the record by traveling by bus through the Mississippi Delta. "Like when the Sex Pistols did their one and only American tour, the weird mid-south has something very absurd about it when contrasted with radical visionary musicians," Coyne said, in a prepared statement. "I've accepted the job of, not DRIVING, but commandeering the Magical Mystery Merry Prankster bus."

The attempt will take place on June 27, beginning in Memphis and wrapping up in New Orleans. All the Flaming Lips performances will be streamed to coincide with MTV's O Music Awards. more on this story
