. Led by guitarist-singer J Mascis, the trio formed in the mid '80s and rose to prominence as a favorite of such peers as Sonic Youth, Nirvana and Iggy Pop. The band is sometimes credited with restoring lead guitar to indie rock--a reputation well-earned, given Mascis's penchant for flavoring his songs with shards of guitar noise and shrieking feedback. The text of Dinosaur Jr. by Dinosaur Jr. consists of interviews with band members Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph, as well as former members and long-time friends.
