Beyonce Sells 80,000 Copies of Her New Album in Three Hours

(Radio.com) In a year marked by the album release spectacle, Beyonc� has just trumped them all without any advance hyper or fanfare whatsoever. With the "Single Ladies" superstar shocking the music world by unexpectedly releasing her fifth studio full-length at midnight on Friday(Dec. 13) exclusively through iTunes, the album entitled Beyonc� sold an impressive 80,000 copies in its first three hours of availability.

According to Billboard, it's too early to even project how many copies the album will move over the three days left in the sales tracking week. But it's already shifted half of what Garth Brooks new compilation and last week's No. 1, Blame It All On My Roots: Five Decades Of Influences, is expected to sell (150,000-160,000) over the full seven days.

The surprise release has taken over not just the sales charts but the world's social networks, with fans raving about having a brand new Beyonc� album in time for the holidays. more on this story
