Singled Out: Brittany Smooch
. "You're The Type of Guy" was written about two years ago while I was living in LA recording my (FIRST?) album. I had been in the studio all night, every night so I really didn't have much time for a social life. My schedule was basically to work all night and sleep all day; I started feeling pretty lonely. One night I was taking a break from recording and randomly signed onto iChat. I hadn't iChatted in forever so it was weird when an old friend from back home in NYC messaging me from out of the blue to talk. We started to video-chat and I realized I actually had a mini-crush on this guy. I definitely used to like him, secretly, while I was living on the East Coastbut basically I ignored it because he was known as a "bad boy". Everyone in the studio saw me video chatting with this boy and the teasing began. No one had really seen me actually like a guy before. My manager even asked me, "Is that the kind of boy you like to hang with?" joking around. It was that exact night when I heard a new beat that I really loved and thought it would be cool to write a song about liking this boy to that music. I remember what my manager said and that's how the hook developed. I changed up the music a bit to put my own touch on it. But I thought to myself, this is definitely the kind of guy I like to hang out with. When I was writing the song, I had to include something about like stereotypical "bad boy"; I thought the concept was something most girls could relate to. Unfortunately, we all learn that the bad boys can be so intriguing. So it happened "You're The Type of Guy (That I Like to Hang With)" was created. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about Brittany right here!
