Taylor Swift May Play Joni Mitchell In Biopic

(Gibson) Joni Mitchell made a rare live performance on June 18 at a tribute concert for her own birthday. The iconic singer-songwriter-guitarist was expected to only read a poem at Toronto's Luminato Festival celebrating her 70th birthday (which is actually in November.)

But Mitchell surprised the audience by singing "Furry Sings the Blues" from her 1976 album Heijra and "Don't Interrupt the Sorrow" (from 1975's The Hissing of Summer Lawns) and a version of "Woodstock" with other musicians joining in. The show featured performances from Rufus Wainwright, Kathleen Edwards and Glen Hansard among others.

Taylor Swift is currently discussing playing Joni Mitchell in Girls Like Us, a movie adaptation of Sheila Weller's book about Mitchell and her '70s peers Carole King and Carly Simon.

Speaking about the role, Swift recently said: "That's actually not confirmed. I wish I could say it's confirmed! But the thing about movies that I've learned is, I've been reading scripts for five years, and you just don't know what ones are going to get greenlit and which ones aren't so I can't talk about it unless it's the real thing." more on this story
