Mohamed Al Fayed Suing Paul Anka Over His 'My Way' Autobiography (Recap)
. In Los Angeles Superior Court, Al Fayed and his lawyers made the claim that Anka's book takes advantage of "the public's insatiable interest in and enduring love for Princess Diana." Dodi Fayed was the boyfriend of Princess Diana, and he also died in the Paris car crash that took Diana's life in 1997. The book asserts that Anka was a father figure to Fayed, who was portrayed as a cocaine abuser and a "Daddy's boy." The book, co-written by David Dalton, also claims that Anka loaned Fayed $150,000 after U.S. Customs seized cash he had attempted to smuggle into the United States, and when Fayed didn't repay the loan, Anka went to Al Fayed himself, who Anka says paid him "hush money" to end the ordeal. But Al Fayed believes the book portrays him falsely, of course as "being in agreement with Anka's outrageous assessment of Dodi's purported poor character as a criminal, womanizing, drug-using deadbeat who lived beyond his means and who had to have 'Daddy' come to his rescue, even to the extent of an alleged willingness to pay 'hush money.'" - more on this story Radio.com is an official news provider for antiMusic.com.
