(Radio.com) While Rod Stewart's last seven albums have been tributes to some of the most classic songs ever written (including five volumes dedicated to the American Songbook), his latest proves he's not too old to rock.

Due out May 7, the 68-year-old singer's new album, Time, will be his first album of new material since 2001's Human. And for the first time in nearly 20 years, the singer had a hand in writing the majority of the songs on the record.

"An issue which I thought had long passed and which I'd given up, songwriting, has come back, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it," Stewart told Billboard.

The music, according to Billboard, sounds more like some of his biggest hits, including a new song that takes the Celtic-influence of "Maggie May" and another that has the dance beats of "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy."

But Stewart has outgrown his 'Sexy" days explaining that the themes on Time are "a little more adult now." more on this story
