Luke Bryan Calls New Song Among Coolest Sad Songs He's Ever Heard

. (Radio.com) His recent No. 1 smash "That's My Kind of Night" may still be plenty warm, but that's not stopping Luke Bryan from readying yet another single for country radio. This time, though, he's taking a 180-degree turnaround, shifting the mood away from "catfish dinners" and "diamond plate tailgates" into sadder territory with the ballad "Drink A Beer."

"It's one of the coolest sad songs I've ever heard," Bryan told Radio.com about the song. "Drink a Beer" is a song about losing someone close. The lyrics focus on a character who, stunned by a loss that is both surprising and very fresh, chooses to honor that person by sitting "on the edge of this pier" and having a beer�an experience they would normally be sharing.

It's a song that hits you, yes, but it does so quietly and with care. "I just thought it was an amazingly written song," Bryan said. The subject "was something that everybody can connect with, because so many people out there have lost somebody. And their connection with them was, they used to have a beer in a bar with them, or have a beer anywhere with them. Drinking a beer with a friend is a huge connection, and that song [brings] all those emotions together." more on this story
