Flaming Lips Drop Kesha Album Plans

(Radio.com) After months of teasing, Wayne Coyne unexpectedly announced yesterday (Nov. 7) that the planned collaboration album between his band the Flaming Lips and Ke$ha has been scuttled.

The lead-up to the now non-event kicked off back in April, when Coyne raved about working with the pop sensation during a Reddit AMA. "She is a blast on all levels," Coyne said (via Spin). "She's funny, she's humble. She's badass. She's everything. She's awesome. We're actually already working on an album with her. It's called Lip$ha."

The two seemingly disparate entities first collaborated for The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends, a special 12-inch release the band cooked up for Record Store Day 2012 that boasted a wide range of guests including Chris Martin of Coldplay, Yoko Ono and Biz Markie.

Despite Coyne's obvious enthusiasm for the collaboration (he even let her give him his first and only tattoo), he took to Twitter to announce the Lip$ha album was no longer happening, although he declined to give the specific reason for the cancellation other than, "it is sad." more on this story
