18-year-old Country Newcomer Rachel Farley Delivers Second Single

(Radio.com) You may not recognize Rachel Farley's name yet, but chances are you will soon. The 18-year-old country newcomer has only released a couple of radio singles so far"Ain't Easy" made the country Top 40 last spring, and this week she just released her second, "Midnight Road."

Then again, maybe her name does ring a bell. That's because, while she may only be 18, Farley has been working hard at her music career for several years already. In addition to her singles, for instance, last year she gained new fans as an opening act on tour with Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan; and she's also written songs and performed with Brantley Gilbert, a fellow Georgia native who's been a mentor to her since she was 13.

Farley also has a recording contract with Red Bow Records, which is aiming to release her debut record in early 2014. The album is produced by Michael Knox, who also produces Jason Aldean.

Farley wrote her current single "Midnight Road" in a session with Ross Copperman and Heather Morgan. As she told Radio.com, what first inspired the song was a "haunting track" that Copperman created on his Mac, which then led to Morgan coming up with the title "Midnight Road."

What it's about, though, isn't as much spooky as thrilling. "I've always loved the awkwardness and excitement of a new relationship," Farley said, "that moment when you're riding around in a car, and you're not sure how the night's going to endif ya'll are going to kiss, or hold hands. And that's what 'Midnight Road' is about, that whole hodgepodge of emotions that situation brings on. And at the same time, [the female character] is taking charge, saying, 'I dare you to take it to the next level.'"

During a private show in Nashville on Monday night, Farley previewed a handful of songs (including "Midnight Road") from her upcoming album. She played two of the songs live, accompanying herself on an acoustic guitar, which proved two things right away. First, this young woman is a strong and confident performer. And secondboy, can she sing. more on this story
