Beck Releasing First New Album Over Five Years

(Radio.com) After five years of various one-off gigs, large-scale composition projects covering David Bowie albums with a 167-piece orchestra, covering entire Yanni albums, and writing albums out on sheets of paper, the Beck is back.

Having signed to Capitol, Beck will release his 12th official album Morning Phase, which, as noted in a press release, is "a companion piece of sorts to Beck's 2002 classic Sea Change." The sparse, acoustic Sea Change marked a, well, sea change from Beck's previous album, the funky/R&B sounding Midnight Vultures.

While no tracklist has appeared yet or exact date, a press release states that the album will be out February of 2014. Morning Phase will feature many of the same musicians who played on Sea Change, including Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Joey Waronker (currently of Ultraista), Smokey Hormel, Roger Joseph Manning Jr., and Jason Falkner.

Listen to Beck's lolling "Golden Age" from Sea Change to get an idea of what Morning Phase might sound like here.
