Sky Ferreira Arrested For Possession Of Ecstasy (Heroin Also Found)
. Smith just tweeted from his band's Twitter account: "what you're reading is a police blotter, not the outcome of a court case. these cops wanted to f**k us, and they did. sky did nothing wrong." Hours before Smith's performance at BasilicaSoundScape Music Festival at Meadowgreens Campgrounds in Hudson, New York, the two were pulled over by Saugerties police. According to a press release from the Saugerties Police Department, Smith and Ferreira were arrested at 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning, "incidental to a vehicle and Traffic Stop in the Village of Saugerties." Police stopped a 1990 Ford pickup truck with New Jersey license plates after the driver made "several vehicle and traffic infractions." Smith was then charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of possession of stolen property and one count of aggravated unlicensed driving, according to The Daily Freeman. Additionally, he was charged with the violations of unregistered motor vehicle, driving without insurance, being an unlicensed driver and having an inadequate exhaust system. Ferreira was also in the car and was arrested on misdemeanor charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. Upon searching the vehicle, the police found a plastic bag containing 42 decks of heroin. Saugerties Chief of Police Sinagra explained that a "deck" of heroin is a small folded paper packet. "Usually it contains enough for one hit depending, again, on how much a person uses," he said. While a felony charge for having possession of any controlled substance depends on weight and whether there is a prior conviction, Sinagra said there are a lot of things that go into charging an individual. "The person would need a half-ounce or more to be charged with a felony," he said, citing New York's Pen. Law Section 220.06 Criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree. Ferreira and Smith were found with less than half of an ounce of heroin, and both were charged with a misdemeanor possession in the seventh degree. more details.
