Organizers of the Joey Ramone Birthday Bash have announced details for this year's event which will be taking place on the late Ramones frontman's birthday of May 19th.
The annual celebration of Ramone's legacy will be taking place at a more intimate venue this year, Bowery Electric, which is located on the corner of the Bowery and Joey Ramone Place (only a block away from where the legendary CBGBs once stood).
The Joey Ramone Tribute Band featuring Cheetah Chrome, Glen Matlock, Sic F*cks, George Tabb, Mickey Leigh and additional surprise guests will be headlining the show.
The event will also feature performances from Andy Shernoff, David Peel, The A-Bones, Heap, Gobsh*tes, The Independents (a group Joey managed), and The Bullys. Sean O'Sullivan's Punk Pipers will once again be the closing act for the celebration.
Organizers also announced that John Holmstrom, Stig Stench, Monte Melnick, and Peter Aschner will all act as Masters of Ceremony for the event.
Joey Ramones Birthday Bash cofounder Mickey Leigh had this to say, "There is never a shortage of reasons to celebrate the birthday and life of my brother, and never hard to find a theme every year, either.
"This year the theme is more obvious than in all the years prior. Being that The Ramones were born in 1974, this year we'll be celebrating not only the birthday of Jeff Hyman, we'll be celebrating the birth of Joey Ramone, as well."
