(Radio.com) Aspiring DJs, take note. Simon Cowell is set to launch the DJ version of American Idol, and he's looking for you. Ultimate DJ, which has been in discussion and development for years, has been put on the fast track to becoming a reality, given the current boon of dance music in America. Cowell's Syco Entertainment is partnering with T-Mobile and SFX Entertainment (which has famously invested big money in the American EDM market, including bringing the TomorrowWorld festival stateside) to produce the program and create a new crop of TV-generated stars who rock the CDJs instead of the microphone.

"We have been developing this concept for a while but our partnership with SFX has been a real game-changer for this format," Cowell said in a press release. "It made complete sense for us to collaborate with SFX with their access to the best up-and-coming DJs and their great marketing platform to build new DJ talent."

"Bringing EMC (electronic music culture) to the world is our goal," added Robert Sillerman, the controversial Chairman & CEO of SFX Entertainment. "And building a TV franchise in the USA is a key part of that strategy. It's always exciting to work with Simon Cowell, and the creative power of the Syco organization is undisputed. They are the perfect partners for our vision." more on this story
