On Friday Deep Purple's Roger Glover Honored By The University of South Wales was a top story. Here is the recap: (hennemusic) Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover has been named an Honorary Fellow of the University of South Wales. The South Wales Evening Post reports Glover was honored for his "contribution to music and the creative industries."

"We are delighted to honour Roger in recognition of his great musical achievements," said Professor Julie Lydon, Vice Chancellor of the University of South Wales. "Our University is a powerhouse for the arts and creative industries, and Roger is a great example and inspiration to our students graduating in those disciplines."

"My version of university was gaining experience performing with Episode Six, the band I formed during my teens," acknowledged the bassist, who left the group - along with singer Ian Gillan - to join Deep Purple in 1969.

"I was a professional musician for the first time and relished the opportunity to learn about the ever-changing music industry," explained Glover, adding, "It is fantastic to see so many graduates realising their potential and gaining degrees from the University today, and I wish them every success in their future careers."
