Robert Johnson's Son Wins Photo Legal Battle

(The Blues) The son of Robert Johnson has been awarded ownership of the only known photographs of his father after a legal battle. Claud Johnson and the descendants of the iconic bluesman's half-sister Carrie Harris Thompson had been in dispute over the two images.

Johnson, who was declared his father's sole heir in 1998, argued that the photos were part of the estate, while the Thompson heirs said they'd been personally owned by her and therefore weren't included. They hoped to gain a share of royalties generate by commercial use of the pictures.

But Supreme Court Presiding Justice Jess Dickinson found their claim had expired due to statute of limitation laws, saying it should have been filed by 1994. more on this story
