(Radio.com) The roles of two iconic rockers have been cast for the upcoming Gregg Allman biopic, which has the working title of Midnight Rider, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Tyson Ritter, frontman of pop-punk band the All-American Rejects will play the role of Gregg, while Wyatt Russell, son of actor Kurt Russell, will play his late brother and Allman Brothers Band bandmate Duane Allman. The film is based on Gregg Allman's memoir, My Cross To Bear, which he co-wrote with music journalist Alan Light. It will be directed by Randall Miller, who helmed the recent film about the New York City punk rock club CBGBs.

Both Ritter and Russell will sing and play instruments throughout the film, which will include original Allman Brothers tracks, as well as re-recorded versions of songs by the actor/musicians. Production on the film is slated to start in February.

According to the THR, the film will tell the story of Gregg Allman's journey from struggling artist through the formation and subsequent success of The Allman Brothers Band; it will also show an older Allman, who, at 64, realizes he has to clean up his act. more on this story
