Dave Matthews Pays Tribute to Pete Seeger

(Gibson) Legendary folk musician Pete Seeger passed away Monday (Jan. 27) at the age of 94, and as it turns out, Seeger's work inspired a young Dave Matthews. In a message posted on Rolling Stone's official website , Matthews remembered the first concert he ever attended, which was actually a Pete Seeger show in upstate New York.

Matthews' parents took him, along with his brother and sisters, to the Seeger concert. As he writes, "I will never forget it. I was little. Dancing in a field in upstate New York while the grown-ups sat on the grass. My parents and family raised me on music of all sorts and Pete Seeger was a big part."

Years later, Matthews says he met Seeger for lunch, when Seeger was almost 90. He recalls Seeger being "so funny and charming, humble and brilliant, all at once. Full of hope but disappointed in our wasteful ways." more on this story
