The members of legendary rock band Rush received honorary Doctorate Of Music degrees from Nipissing University on Thursday but due to weather they were unable to attend the ceremony. However, Geddy Lee and Lifeson have both posted their acceptance speeches online.
The band had this to say about the honor on their Facebook page, "We are sorry the weather did not co-operate and we were unable to land in North Bay, Ontario to attend the convocation ceremony and accept our honorary degrees in person as planned. Thanks to our friends at Sportsnet who were able to tape the intended speeches when we landed back in Toronto so they could be posted here. Thank you Nipissing University! - Dr. Lee (Hon), Dr. Lifeson (Hon), Dr. Peart (Hon)"
In separate Facebook postings, the band also shared links to Geddy and Alex's acceptance speeches: Geddy Lee dedicated his honorary degree to his mother Mary Weinrib and her inspiring story of perseverance. You can watch his speech here.
Alex Lifeson talked about hard work, perseverance, conviction and chicken wings in his convocation acceptance speech. You can watch his speech here.
