Allman Brothers Band's Derek Trucks Learned For Other's Mistakes

(The Blues) Derek Trucks believes his time with the Allman Brothers Band has taught him to learn from other people's mistakes when it comes to surviving live as a musician.

His decision to bow out of the group is one of the reasons they'll wind down at the end of this year. But the guitarist - who's planning to focus more on the Tedeschi Trucks Band with his wife Susan Tedeschi - has a lifetime of memories to take with him.

He tells Ultimate Classic Rock: "Being around the Allman Brothers camp, there are a lot of stories to learn from. And some of those I was around for. A lot of the best learning stories you'll never read; but there are things you definitely key in on, and you try not to repeat mistakes."

He believes he's achieved a better balance with his own outfit. "We're trying to buck the trend in a lot of ways," he says, "trying to raid the family, trying to keep a band together where everybody likes each other."
