Singled Out: Dorydrive's Here's To You
. "Here's to You" was a fun song to start collaborating on even though the riff that birthed the song was discarded. I can still hear that swampy riff and the excitement it brought the band, as we flirted with a simple arrangement at a sound check in Battle Creek, MI. The Riff inspired the opening line used in the single Here's to You. "I love the way your blue jean hip shake brings me to my knees." We began some mediocre production on Garage Band and decided the idea was strong enough to present to the label and our producer. The band took our idea into the studio to present what we felt was a fun direction that would break us into a wider market. As the ideas started to flow the original riff was soon placed to the side. We decided to utilize structures we felt work in today's top pop music and fused it into our genre of active rock. Inspired by someone close to me I wanted lyrical content that would pull the female audience closer to the band. I started brainstorming with the guys and our producer. Lines like "I love the way your high heal foot stomps movin' to the beat" fell onto the computer screen and it seemed this was going to be a quick process, but like any song before it the process came to a stand still. We were having issues with the chorus and were finding it difficult to believe in anything. I quickly fell back on old notes I store in my phone. "Here's to you" stood out like the beacon from a lighthouse guiding a fisherman to shore! The phrase "One more drink" followed as a melody started to manifest inside my head. The feeling in the room lifted and we all filled with excitement as we finally heard something positive on playback. With a new-found energy filling the room we broke open bottles of Jack Daniels and multiple cases of Coors Light and Bud Light as we finished pre production of the song with a bang! The chorus turned into our anthem for the evening. "Here's to You" gulp! So here we are months later prepared to rest our fate on a song that had so many twists and turns to create. We are excited to get the reaction of modern active rock listeners and hope it finds a place amongst today's hot ac music stations. As a band we hope our single and the entire album inspires younger musicians to be creative and continue pushing the envelope in this ever changing music industry! Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and watch the video right here!
