Sam Smith Reveals 'Leave Your Lover' Video

(Radio.com) Sam Smith is properly in the lonely hour with his latest video, this time for "Leave Your Lover." Director Luke Monaghan (Disclosure, A$AP Rocky) turns in a piece of beautiful cinematography and choreography in which Smith plays a man who is as detached as a Bret Easton Ellis character, yet clearly longs for love - or something like it.

In the video, Smith wines, dines and plays with two friends. The relationship is unclear: the duo may be a couple, the trio may be involved, sexual preference is clearly mutable. They live the life of rich kids, drinking champagne, wearing designer clothes and dancing the night away. All the while, Smith shoots desiring looks at both, only changing with the locations at which they spend their time and money. He is always isolated, even with these close friends nearby and a good time happening all around.

Smith told Radio.com that the songs from his debut album, In the Lonely Hour, were inspired by an unrequited relationship. "I fell in love with someone who didn't love me back last year," Smith said. "I really myself. I wanted to write an album for lonely people."
