(Radio.com) After Against Me! frontwoman Laura Jane Grace took to Twitter last week to object to Arcade Fire's choice to cast Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield in the main role for their "We Exist" video instead of a trans actor, singer Win Butler has responded in an interview with the Advocate, alongside the video's director David Wilson.

"There was just so much thought and love that went into the video I don't personally see it as negative. I can totally see the sensitivity of the issue," Butler said.

Wilson offered background on the video shoot, including his own intial apprehensions. "Before I got on the call, I thought, Is this the right person - should we be using a transgender person?" Wilson said. "But then getting on the phone with Andrew, and Andrew's commitment and passion toward the project was just overwhelming. For an actor of that caliber to be that emotionally invested in a music video is just a very special thing."

The article details that Garfield was coached in his role by trans musician Our Lady J. The explanations didn't sit well with Grace, initially. In a series of now deleted tweets captured by Consequence of Sound she blasts several points. Details here.
