The New Pornographers Release 'Dancehall Domine' Video

(Radio.com) In their latest video, the New Pornographers explore an aesthetic that has been popular with indie rock acts in 2014: the past's idea of the future. Or rather, a future that was never realized.

The Canadian production duo Leblanc + Cudmore (Stephen Malkmus + the Jicks, Kevin Drew) helm this clip, in which the New Porns head back to the future as imagined in the 1960s, exploring visuals and ideas that were cutting edge in a time when TVs were black and white and go-go dancers were au courant.

Spotted among the artifacts are Buddy Holly glasses, bouffants, polka dots and Mary Quaint inspired dresses. The visual effects cleverly explore surrealist ideas and tricks that cheat the eye to give a creepy impression. Coupled with AC Newman and Kathryn Calder's dead stares directly into the camera, it is highly effective.

It is, perhaps, a subtle nod to Halloween, for everyone in this video is dressed in costume and pretending to be someone they are not. Watch the video here.
