Foo Fighters Get Their Very Own Day in Richmond, VA

(Radio.com) Is it music appreciation week? A day after news that David Bowie received his own day in Chicago thanks to Hip Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Foo Fighters have similarly received their own tribute in Richmond, Va.

Yesterday Sept. 17, now known as "Foo Fighters Day RVA," was declared by mayor Dwight Jones. How exactly did the band, which has no real historical connection to Richmond, get their own day?

It started with Foo Fighters announcing that they were going to play a crowd-funded concert in the city - their first gig there in 16 years - at the venue The National.

In the mayor's proclamation of the day, he credits the "fan-orchestrated event that brought Foo Fighters back to Virginia's capital city." Read more here.
