Cat Stevens (Yusuf) Cancels Show After Ticket Scalping

(Radio.com) Yusuf Islam, better known to American audiences by his former name of Cat Stevens. hasn't toured the U.S. since 1976. And while much has changed in that time, one thing that hasn't is the market for reselling concert tickets, marking them up considerably in the process. And this is a process the "Wild World" singer will not stand for.

Yusuf has announced the cancellation of his scheduled New York City show at the Beacon Theatre on Dec. 4, with a show now planned in Philadelphia at the Tower Theatre on the same date, explaining that scalpers apparently jacked many of the tickets, WCBS (a CBS Radio station) reports.

Yusuf posted the following message as an explanation, citing the high ticket prices on the secondary market, upwards of $11,000 as the reason. "Unfortunately I will not be performing in NYC this time around but I am looking forward to playing for fans in Philadelphia on December 4 and hope to return to NYC at a future date. My fans will understand and I thank them for informing me about the extortionate tickets prices already being listed on some websites." He continues here.
