Singled Out: Voodoo Sex Cult's 40 Days
. When asked to write the meaning and inspiration behind a song, it doesn't take a whole lot when you are the main writer for a band like the Voodoo Sex Cult. Our songs range in so many different ways, from lyrical content to musical style that it leaves a lot to be said. "40 Days" is a look at relationships in a whole new light. The idea came to me after a really ugly breakup, ending a three and a half year relationship. I was sitting around thinking of all of the things that went wrong, as one would, and I suddenly realized that it wasn't so much the other person, but me that was responsible for what had happened. So many times we want to point the finger and say, "Oh, that Bitch" or "Oh, he was a Dick", but realistically if we really sit down and do a personal inventory, we find it had a huge part to do with our actions. That can be a harsh reality, but an honest one none the less. I guess a large part of my writing comes from personal pain, and I have had my share of that. "40 Days" is just a reflection of a self-inventory and the realization that sometimes we have to look at ourselves and forgive the other people in our lives for their shortcomings. I hope you give the song a listen and it stirs some kind of thought or emotion, then my work is complete. Oh, and enjoy the rest of the Voodoo Sex Cult album, thanks for letting me share. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
