Robin Thicke and Pharrell's 'Blurred Lines' Cost 6.9 Million To Make A Hit
. (Radio.com) Just how much money goes behind a hit single? Court documents from the ongoing trial over "Blurred Lines" where Marvin Gaye's family is suing Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams over ripping off the late singer's "Got to Give It Up" have revealed how much a hit song can pay out. For Thicke it was $5.66 million, while Pharrell Williams took home $5.15 million and T.I. pocketed $704,774, according to The Hollywood Reporter. But what about how much it takes to make a hit single? That answer is $6.9 million in the case of "Blurred Lines," which a Universal Music Group executive revealed during the trial. If that figure seems astounding, which it should, you might be surprised to see how quickly $6.9 million adds up when you look at the individual costs of "Blurred Lines" via Forbes, which talked to a handful of industry executives that pieced together an itemized bill. The biggest fees for the single would have been marketing and promotion, which includes Thicke's travel expenses to talk up his song around the world. His travels abroad, including a performance at MTV's Europe Music Awards could have cost $2.5 million. Plus his total awards show performances, radio-sponsored concerts, and other promo events could be over $2.5 million. Read more here. Radio.com is an official news provider for antiMusic.com.
