The Simpsons Do Not Plan To Kill Off Mr. Burns Or Flanders

. (Radio.com) On The Simpsons, It's been a heck of a ride for Harry Shearer. But now the famous voice behind such iconic characters as Mr. Burns, Flanders, Reverend Lovejoy, Dr. Hibbert, Lenny and Principal Skinner has chosen to leave the show. As Shearer Wednesay last night, he "wanted�the freedom to do other work."

So does that mean the characters he voiced will be, um, 'let go' or otherwise 'made redundant'? Not at all. According to a statement released by Simpsons showrunner Al Jean to Dave Itzkoff, an arts and culture reporter for the New York Times, these beloved characters still have a future on the show.

"We do not plan to kill off characters like Burns and Flanders," the statement reads, "but will recast with the finest voiceover talent available." Read more here.
