Formed as The Jazziacs in Jersey City, NJ in 1964, Kool & The Gang released their self-titled debut album in 1969. The funk, soul and R&B band began a string of US hits with 1973's "Funky Stuff", while "Jungle Boogie" reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and "Hollywood Swinging" peaked at No. 6 the following year. Kool & The Gang brought a smoother sound to the late-70's disco-era and delivered hits like "Ladies' Night" and the 1980 No. 1 smash "Celebration."
