Selena Gomez Reveals She Had Chemotherapy

. (Radio.com) Selena Gomez reveals in a new interview with Billboard for their October cover story the real reason for her highly-publicized hiatus in the beginning of 2014. At the time, gossip mags speculated the former Disney starlet had checked into rehab for addiction issues, but according to her, that couldn't be further from the truth.

'I was diagnosed with lupus, and I've been through chemotherapy. That's what my break was really about. I could've had a stroke," she revealed. 'I wanted so badly to say, 'You guys have no idea. I'm in chemotherapy. You're a-holes.' I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again."

Throughout her career, Gomez says she's grown tired of people acting 'vile" towards her, pointing to the constant focus on her love life and being body-shamed on social media as examples. However, she also feels she's been able to channel the negativity into her new record. 'It's so disappointing that I've become a tabloid story," she said. 'The hate motivated me." Read more here.
