Ozzy Osbourne reportedly told a New Orleans newspaper that contrary to prior indications, Black Sabbath have "opted against" recording a final album before they retire at the conclusion of next year's farewell tour.

Osbourne spoke with The Times-Picaynne ahead of his performance at the Voodoo Music and Art Experience Festival this Halloween where he will be backed by Slash and his Black Sabbath bandmate Geezer Butler.

While the feature included several direct quotes from Osbourne, the segment of the article that stated he said the band opted against recording a final album was not a direct quote.

Osbourne was however very clear that Black Sabbath's upcoming tour, that they are calling "The End," will definitely live up to it's name. "It's the end of Sabbath, believe me," he said.

He went on to explain the reason why the legendary heavy metal band is retiring. "In December, I'll be f------' 68 and I think it's time to call it the end of the day. I'm not saying I won't get on stage with Geezer or Tony (Iommi) or any of them some time, but officially we're going to be done.

"I don't want it to dwindle and dwindle and play just for the sake of making another f------' sack full of cash. So it's time, and then I'll go back to doing my own thing."

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi left the question of a final album open during a recent interview with the Birmingham Mail. He said, "I've been busy writing songs ever since the 13 sessions - at that point we thought there might be another Sabbath album. But that's up in the air now, so I don't know when or where they might appear."

Ozzy also spoke with The Times-Picaynne about playing solo for the first time in a number of years at the upcoming music festival, "It's been awhile since I've done anything on my own, maybe three or four years now. So I hope it sounds good. All I'm doing is going out there and having some fun. As long as the band plays well and the audience has a good time, that's all I'm caring about."
