(Radio.com) Hozier debuted the music video for his new single "Cherry Wine," and it touches on a heavy topic. Starring Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan, the video looks at domestic abuse.

The music video shows a seemingly sweet moment between Hozier and Ronan, kissing and playing around. But that scene becomes increasingly dark when cut with footage of Ronan standing before a mirror and removing her makeup to reveal a black eye.

"Hozier is making 'Cherry Wine' a clarion call to highlight the issue of domestic violence," the artist's website states. "The song's lyrics offer a unique insight into an abusive relationship, shining a light on the cycle of 'justification' often perpetuated in domestic violence incidents; that public health experts say controls the abused, shames the victim, and shifts responsibility for the abuser's violent behavior."

Hozier stated on his website, "With the song 'Cherry Wine,' I tried to get across the difficulty of coming to terms with and facing up to domestic violence and the dynamic of an abusive relationship. I'm honoured to be joined by Saoirse Ronan, video director Dearbhla Walsh and Moe Dunford in spreading awareness on this issue."

Calling the song one of her favorites from his album, Saoirse Ronan shared that she was honored when Hozier approached her to be in the music video. She stated, "I hope through the video and song we can shine light on the issue and complexity of domestic abuse and in doing so help those caught up in the cycle of domestic violence."
