Diplo, who is a writer on the track along with Ed Sheeran and Benny Blanco, discussed the collaboration in an interview with Rolling Stone. "It was spontaneous, no one thought it would work," Diplo said about the decision to bring the track to Bieber. "The timing was perfect and when we approached Justin, he was also in love with the song we all had written," Diplo added in a press statement. " A fan of MO himself, Diplo raved about the young singer. "I felt like she was so ambiguous, having grown up singing pop and punk.
