(Radio.com) This summer David Gilmour will return to the Roman town of Pompeii for the first time in 45 years. The guitarist will perform two shows in the historic city in July, which will be his first shows there since Pink Floyd recorded Live at Pompeii back in 1971.

Pompeii Culture Minister Dario Franceschini took to Twitter today to make the official announcement writing, "Agreement reached. After 45 years David Gilmour will play again at Pompeii on July 7 and 8." See it below.

Back in 1971, Pink Floyd filmed their classic Live at Pompeii concert over four days, where the band played at the Amphitheater of Pompeii without an audience. The psychedelic rockers performed blistering versions of "Careful with That Axe, Eugene," "One of These Days" and "Echoes." Watch a clip from the film in the player here.
