RCHP's Chad Smith Recruits Chris Martin, Beck and More For 'New Boy Band'

(Radio.com) Last week, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith posted a short video on Instagram that looked like one hell of a backyard party featuring an all-star jam. A band fronted by Chris Martin of Coldplay, and featuring Jakob Dylan of the Wallflowers and Beck on guitars and backing vocals, and the Red Hot Chili Pepper drummer Smith holding down the beats, covering the Beach Boys' "Surfin' U.S.A." in what looks like somebody's backyard. Smith joked in the caption, "My new boy band." Smith is probably joking, but you never know for sure. He's been in the Red Hot Chili Peppers since 1988, but also has worked on some other musical projects, including Chickenfoot, which includes former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony and guitar guru Joe Satriani, and he also leads his own instrumental band, Chad Smith's Bombastic Meat Bats.
