The Rock in Rio official web site had this to say about the GNR performance: "Without releasing a new studio album in seven years, Axl Rose and Co. have set their comeback. The vocalist is preparing a concert exclusively for Rock in Rio, with new and old songs. Considering the fans' expectations and Guns N'Roses glorious past, this is sure to be one of the best concerts in the history of the festival."
This incarnation of Guns N Roses is rumored to feature a special appearance by Robin Finck plus Dizzy Reed (keyboards), Buckethead (guitar), Tommy Stinson (bass), Paul Tobias (guitar) and Brain formerly of Primus on Drums. Axl Rose remains as the only original member of the group.
Guns N' Roses is set to headline the third day of the festival, Jan 14, 2001. The event will run from Jan 12-21.
There is still no official word yet on
a release date for "Chinese Democracy" the long awaited studio album from
GN'R, but there have been a few reports that the album is in the can and
is ready for release. But given the past history of this elusive album,
it is better to wait for an official announcement before getting your hopes
up. We will follow up when we have more information.
Robin Finck and guitar virtuoso Buckethead are confirmed members of the current GN'R lineup according to the bands management company, Big FD Entertainment. Rumored but as yet unconfirmed drummer is Bryan Mantia of Primus fame according to a MTV online report.
Big FD Entertainment issued a statement on Friday that confirmed the return of Finck and laid out plans for a Summer 2001 tour by the band. Also veteran producer Bob Ezrin (KISS, Pink Floyd) has singed on to help with the ongoing recording project that is supposed to result in the release of a new GN'R CD, "Chinese Democracy".
