Other previously nominated artists returning to the ballot include Aerosmith, Solomon Burke, Steely Dan, Queen and Ritchie Valens.
Michael Jackson and Paul Simon who were both previously inducted as part of a group (The Jackson Five and Simon and Garfunkel) are on the ballot this year as solo artists.
Other nominees include AC/DC, Flamingos, Brenda Lee, Lynyrd Skynyrd, New York Dolls, Lou Reed and Patti Smith.
An artist is eligible for the Hall 25 years after they release their first recording. According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's official web site other qualifying factors taken in to account, " include the influence and significance of the artists contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll. " Using that criteria almost all of the artists eligible this year should be inducted. Who has been more influential? Brenda Lee or Black Sabbath?
Who votes? Again, according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame web site, " Ballots are then sent to an international voting body of about 1,000 rock experts. Those performers who receive the highest number of votes, and more than 50 percent of the vote, are inducted. The Foundation generally inducts five to seven performers each year."
Stay tuned to discover which artists the "rock experts" pick this time around. Our predictions: Michael Jackson, Paul Simon, Lou Reed, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Flamingos.
