Last week Eddie Van Halen disclosed to fans that he is battling cancer. The legendary guitarist Posted a letter on the bands official website (vanhalen.com) last Thurday that finally puts an end to rumors that have been in the air for almost a year about his health. The rumors were sparked last May when Eddie entered the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for treatment. A publicist for the center at the time stated that Eddie had entered the facility to receive a Cancer Prevention treatment.
Below is the letter Eddie Van Halen wrote
to his fans on Vanhalen.com:
"I'm sorry for having waited so long to
address this issue personally. But cancer can be a very unique and private
matter to deal with. So, I think it's about time to tell you where I'm
at. I was examined by three oncologists and three head & neck surgeons
at Cedars Sinai [Hospital] just before spring break and I was told that
I'm healthier than ever and beating cancer. Although it's hard to say when,
there's a good chance I will be cancer-free in the near future. I just
want to thank all of you for your concern and support. Love, Eddie."
As soon as Eddie went public with the news his former bandmate David Lee Roth issued the following statement: "I was stunned this morning to learn Eddie Van Halen has cancer. My condolences. You can whip this, champ. See ya down the road, D."
The other rumor concerning a Van Halen reunion are also still flying but seems less likely. A couple of weeks ago David Lee Roth issued a statement admitting he had recorded with the group, but has not been in touch since last July. The next day the Van Halen camp issued a counter statement, "Edward, Alex, and Mike arec ontinuing to work in the studio creating music for our next record." So the question remains who is manning the microphone?
