Artist reactions to terrorist attacks.

9-18-01 antiGUY

Several recording artists have issued statements reacting to the September 11th terrorist attacks in New York and Washington DC.  Here are a few of them.

From Brad Smith Unified Theory/Blind Melon

Our hearts go out to the victims and their families of the terrorist attacks on September 11.  The emotional fallout of the attacks will last for months and will never be forgotten.  The heinous acts of terrorism have awakened the American spirit and the whole nation will stand as one in support of our government until justice is served.

From Lemmy - Motorhead

Since I've been coming to America to tour since 1973, I feel kind of like an adopted American in a lot of ways, and this atrocity hit me too.  The cold-blooded way these assassins used passenger flights (and whatever creed these people follow, there were surely some of the same creed among the
passengers) is unforgivable.

They need to be certainly identified, and then blasted and razed from the face of the earth.  This is one instance where revenge is inevitable - just make sure they're the right guys and then erase 'em.  All our condolences to the relatives and friends - all my disgust for the perpetrators.

From Serj Tankian - System of a Down

"Our whole world has been sickened by the terrible events in New York and D.C.  I've been calling out to friends all week to make sure they're ok.  My heart goes out to all the families suffering because of this madness.

As American citizens, we are in the privileged position to be able to speak our hearts, even if other people disagree.  I highly value the fact that I can make a statement with my intention being to sponsor peace and understanding of the tragic events that have been unfolding.  I ask only that, for the long-term survival of our planet, we all concentrate on positive energies in our lives while pursuing justice.

I would not be alive if not for the American orphanages that raised my grandfather after the Armenian Genocide of 1915, so I have a lot of love and respect for the good things that America has and can continue to achieve."

From Tom Morello Rage Against the Machine

Our deepest sympathy and condolences go out to all the people and their families affected by the attacks on Tuesday. The loss of innocent life is just terrible, and our thoughts go out to all of you who personally may have had friends or family killed or injured in the tragedy. The pain felt across the country demonstrates the lesson of Tuesday's events: that the taking of innocent life is devastating to a society and terribly wrong.

On Tuesday, the victims were American. But the horrible scenes that we've witnessed on TV this week are regular occurrences in other places around the globe. And too often, violence like this has been meted out by our own country and its client states. We should stand together against this type of violence in all its forms, whenever it happens, whether its done in the name of religious fanaticism, or in the names of our own domestic elite.

Our best wishes go out to all of you. Take care of yourselves, and each other.

Peace,
Tom Morello

From Neurotica

The members of Neurotica wish to send our deepest sympathy to the families and friends of the victims of the most recent attack on our country At 7pm Sept 14th we ask that you stop what your doing and light a candle, and offer a moment of silence in this very scary time, but we are more proud than ever to be Americans, we crush!!!

Kelly's birthday was today (Sept 13th), rather than sending Kelly a happy birthday wish, contact your local Red Cross Division ( http://www.redcross.org ) and ask what you can do to help our friends in New York and Washington!

From Svala

I'm deeply saddened by the horrible events that took place in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania last Tuesday.  I was actually in New York when it happened and I was devastated and scared. My homecountry Iceland has great sorrow in their hearts by this like everyone else in the world. We have to unite as one and stay strong. My prayers go out to everyone that lost their loved ones. God bless America. One love. Svala

From Roadrunner Records

Everyone at Roadrunner would like to thank all our friends and family across the planet who have been contacting or trying to contact us since 9am Tuesday morning. We're fortunate enough to say we have all made it through the recent events physically unscathed, though we fear, as everyone, that at the end of the day we've lost friends and family. From the vantage point of our office windows here in the city we could see way too much with our own eyes. Take time to remember what and who you love, why you get up in the morning, and embrace it.

And now, more words from our bands regarding the recent events:

Dez, Mike, Meegs and Rayna, Coal Chamber
It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the souls of those who were lost this week. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families, friends and everyone who's lives were touched by this heinous act. Together, as Americans and citizens of the world, we will overcome this tragedy and prevail, but will never forget those who paid the highest price for freedom.

Mike Sarkisyan, guitar, Spineshank
This f***in sucks. We wanna send our condolences to all the families that lost their loved ones. Spineshank was somewhere between Dublin and London when we heard about this. As of now we have been sitting at the London airport for 3 days due to the airlines not functioning. Stay strong and positive, our prayers are with you.

Roger Vasquez, percussion, Ill Nino
It's a sad day in my hood NYC. We lost a lot of brothers and sisters on Tuesday, this was a terrible thing that happened. But, we will overcome and come back stronger than motha-f***in-ever. Thank you for all the e-mail from all tha ill ninos and ninas...it's good to know we have friends out there. PEACE

Static, bass, Anyone
The responsible people will be held responsible...and should to the utmost...their lives and anyone abiding them...
This is really about the innocent caught in the crossfire of disagreeing parties in power...the will to power is the ultimate evil...maybe 100 people in a room over here disagreeing with 20 people in a room over there...and
innocent paying the price...it is insane...the whole world's insane!!

The real power...the power to save the human race lies in the humility that Love offers...the tranquil space that allows us to realize we are all in it together...The ability to share and rejoice in life...I'm not afraid of anything in this world...

Brandon, vocals, Dislocated Styles
On Behalf of Dislocated Styles we would like to send our hearts and tears to the families, victims and everybody affected by this horrendous attack. We are at a lose of words from this unspeakable terror. Sept 11th 2001, will forever be embedded in our minds from beginning to end. Awoken at 8:30 A.M. Mountain Standard time to these horrible actions we watched in disbelief.

Dislocated Styles had just returned from our UK European tour 3 days prior into Somerset Airport in Pittsburgh. With some of our family and friends working for Airliners and the WTC Buildings we pray for them in the wake of these past days. These events will not weaken our faith in humanity but strengthen our community.

Daniel Struble, vocals, Five Pointe O
On Sept 11th I was awaken by a pounding on my bedroom door, in the studio that we are recording at, right outside of el paso ,TX. I opened the door and Casey had a look of shock on his face and pointed at the TV. what I saw too much for my mind to adjust too. It looked like a high budget Hollywood movie. I couldn't believe that, that was really New York on fire. The first thing that went through my mind was the people that were inside, or if there even was. I couldn't believe that someone was actually hollow hearted enough to take the lives of so many without remorse...this terror is an everyday thing in other places, but it has never hit this close to home. I think this is a wake up call for many. Americans are clearly sticking together, and binding together to help those who were victimized by this attack. I think that is a huge kick in the face to the ones who arranged this horrible attack. They expected us to crumble but we didn't. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. I think if things weren't before, they are definitely put in perspective now. On September 11th 2001, the sun was shining and the birds we're chirping, but for us and the rest of America, it was a black day.
